The Mercer Sports Network consists of 100.9 The Creek FM and SportsMic, the free downloadable app for mobile devices that allows access to games from any location. The audio link for each football radio broadcast is bit.ly/MUBears.
The Mercer Sports Network is fronted by “Voice of the Bears” Rick Cameron, who is in his 22nd year of calling radio play-by-play for Mercer. Cameron was inducted into the Mercer Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019 and has called 1,067 games for the Bears. In 2024, Cameron was one of five finalists for the Bill Schwanke Award, which goes to the top play-by-play broadcaster in the nation for FCS football.
Cameron is joined by Billy Andrews as color analyst and Bill Connelly as sideline reporter.
Andrews is entering his fourth year of broadcasting for Mercer football. A native of Augusta, Ga., and a graduate of the iconic Permian High School in Odessa, Texas—home of Friday Night Lights. Andrews has spent over a decade behind the mic as a football, basketball, and baseball broadcaster for multiple high schools across Middle Georgia. He also co-hosted the Mercer Tailgate Show for five years.
Connelly, in his second season as sideline reporter, is a retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel with 31 years of service flying several platforms accumulating more than 1,800 combat flying hours and 225 combat missions. He has been with Mercer since March 2020 where he has broadcast or announced more than 150 games for eight Mercer sports. He has been the in-game host for Mercer football, men’s and women’s basketball games for the past three seasons. He has also been the announcer the last three seasons for the Macon Mayhem professional hockey team. Connelly was a broadcaster with SportsMic for 10 years bringing football, basketball, baseball and softball to the Houston County area as the Voice of the Veteran Warhawks for more than 300 games.
Greg Elrod and Cole Powell complete the Mercer Sports Network team. Elrod, owner and CEO of SportsMic, and Powell facilitate the Mercer Tailgate Show that airs two hours before each home kickoff from Five Star Stadium. They also produce the Joel Taylor Coach’s Show each Thursday night at Wild Wing Café during football season and Cameron serves as the host.
